After a long journey, there are better things to do than figuring out fare systems and buying tickets.

Our conclusion on the Hola Barcelona Travel Card

✅ In our view, the Hola BCN Card is an excellent choice if you plan to use Barcelona’s public transport system.
With just two to three journeys per day plus the airport transfer by metro or train, the Hola BCN Card is already cheaper than buying individual tickets.
✅ Using public transport in Barcelona becomes simple and relaxed.

➡️ You can find more detailed information about the Hola BCN Card here in this guide.

3) Tickets for Public Transport & Sightseeing

Barcelona’s major attractions are spread widely across the city. Exploring everything on foot can quickly become tiring and time-consuming.

With public transport, you can reach the sights comfortably and in air-conditioned vehicles.

Here are our tips for sightseeing using public transport.

Important notice: Tickets for the Sagrada Família and Park Güell are available online only – often sold out days in advance

The Sagrada Família and Park Güell are among Barcelona’s most popular attractions, and demand for tickets is correspondingly high.

Tickets for these and other major sights are sold exclusively online, with a fixed date and time slot. Buying tickets spontaneously at an on-site ticket office is not possible.

Our recommendation: Book early – especially during peak season

  • The number of visitors per day is limited. Even in the low season, tickets are often sold out several days in advance.
  • Only online tickets with a fixed date and entry time are available.
  • Based on our own experience, we strongly recommend booking as early as possible and ideally before your trip to secure your preferred time slot.
  • Cheaper, non-guided tickets usually sell out first. You may still be able to visit the attraction as part of a guided tour or a combination ticket.

All ticket options and direct booking links are available on these convenient overview pages:

Save money with combination tickets for sightseeing & public transport

Sightseeing passes offer free or discounted entry to attractions. They often include additional services such as audio guides, fast-track access (skip-the-line), or public transport tickets.

  • Prices are higher than regular transport tickets because admission fees are included.
  • With the right pass, you can save a significant amount on sightseeing.
  • Go City, Barcelona Card, Barcelona Digital Pass:
Barcelona offers several sightseeing passes from different providers.

We have tested the available options and compared the advantages and disadvantages of each pass. You will find the results and current prices here in this guide.

Hop-on Hop-off Buses in Barcelona

Hop-on hop-off buses are special tourist buses that operate on fixed routes and stop at Barcelona’s most important attractions.

Important: These buses are not part of the public transport system and require separate tickets.

Advantages compared to public transport

  • They allow you to explore Barcelona comfortably without having to deal with the complexity of public transport tickets.
  • Stops are located at nearly all major attractions, including the Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Casa Batlló, the harbour, the beach and Plaça Catalunya.
  • You decide freely where to get off. If you are short on time, you can simply stay on board and complete the full loop.
  • Unlike fixed guided tours, you set your own breaks — whether for a coffee stop or a longer visit at a sight.
  • No planning required: no transfers, no fare zones — just hop on and go.
  • The open-top double-decker buses offer you an unobstructed view of the city.

Hop-on hop-off buses provide a great overview of the city – without the need for complex public transport planning.

Providers & Prices (2025)

There are two providers of hop-on hop-off sightseeing buses in Barcelona:

  • Barcelona Bus Turístic (city-operated)
  • Gray Line / City Sightseeing (private)

Prices are the same for both:

24 hours: €33

48 hours: €44

The 48-hour ticket is generally the better choice. For just €11 more, you get double the validity period.

Operating times & routes

  • Daily service from approx. 9:00 to 19:00
  • Similar routes with slightly different stops
  • Especially during the high season, buses run frequently

Our recommendation & ticket tips

In our experience, the city-operated Barcelona Bus Turístic has a slight edge.

You can easily purchase your hop-on hop-off ticket online in advance.
This saves both time and money — online tickets are often cheaper.

4) 10-Journey Ticket “T-Casual” (formerly “ATM T-10”)

Cheaper than single tickets – airport transfer NOT included

This ticket is suitable if you are staying in Barcelona for a longer period and plan to use public transport only occasionally.

What does the T-Casual offer?

With the T-Casual, you can take 10 journeys on the following modes of transport:
Metro, tram, suburban trains (Rodalies), buses

Please note:
The T-Casual is personal and cannot be used by multiple people at the same time.

Prices for the T-Casual (2025)

1 zone: €12.55
2 zones: €24.65

Tickets are available from ticket machines.

Ticket Public Transport Barcelona t-Casual

The T-Casual is not valid for airport routes on the metro or trains.

Disadvantages of the T-Casual ticket

  • No airport transfer:
The T-Casual cannot be used on metro or train services to the airport. You will need a separate Airport Ticket (€11.40 return).
  • Time limit per journey:
A 1-zone journey may last a maximum of 75 minutes.
  • No shared use:
The T-Casual is non-transferable and may only be used by one person.

Tip: Many travellers choose the ➡️ Hola BCN Card. This day pass includes unlimited travel, including airport transfer, and is valid for 2 to 5 days.

5) Tickets for Travel Groups and School Classes in Barcelona

Barcelona offers the T-grup group ticket for larger travel groups or school classes:

  • Up to 70 journeys within a period of 30 days
  • One journey allows transfers between lines or modes within 75 minutes of first validation
  • Available for all 6 zones
  • Current prices 2025:
    Zone 1: €87.35
    Zone 2: €172.45

Choosing the Right Ticket for Your Group Trip to Barcelona – Our Tips

Disadvantages of the T-grup ticket

  • Shared use: The entire group must use the same ticket, as only one card is issued for everyone.
  • Limited flexibility: The number of journeys cannot be adjusted individually.
  • Not valid for airport transfers.

Hola BCN Ticket – a flexible alternative for groups

In our opinion, the Hola BCN Ticket is a good alternative for groups and offers several advantages:

  • Easy to use: Unlimited travel on the entire public transport network – including metro and train transfers to the airport.
  • Individual use: Each person receives their own card and can move independently of the group.

Our conclusion:

The T-grup ticket is affordable and suitable for well-organized groups. The Hola BCN Ticket, however, offers much more flexibility and comfort. Which option is best depends on your group’s needs.

Our tip: Order Hola BCN tickets for your group online in advance.

You can conveniently purchase the Hola BCN tickets in advance

Advantages

  • You receive a single invoice for all tickets.
  • No need to handle large amounts of cash on site.
  • Long waiting times at ticket machines are avoided.

      Dear Walter,

thank you for your post. If you decide to book online a “Hola BCN!” card, you don’t book it via our website. We just show with our link, that you can book it at getyourguide.com, Europe’s leading company for booking tourist guides, tours and tickets. So you have the standards and service of a big company. Nevertheless we want to answer your question.
      1) Yes, you can pay by credit card or PayPal.
      2) After booking, you receive a voucher via email. Your voucher must be printed and exchanged at the Barcelona Tourism Office located at Plaça Catalunya, 17 or at any other tourist information point. There are also tourist information points at the Barcelona ElPrat Airport (terminals 1 and 2). So you can easy get yout ticket and use the metro, to get e.g. to the city center.

      Hello Julia,
thank your for your question. Here the official terms of use of tickets :”Children under four are not required to have a ticket. All other passengers must have a valid, suitable and validated ticket.” There is no special HolaBCN! ticket for children older than 4 years. That means:
If your child is under four you don’t need a ticket, if your child is 4 years and older you need a standard HolaBCN! ticket.

Your voucher must be printed and exchanged at one of the 17 Barcelona Tourism Offices or other tourist information points. There are two at Barcelona airport (terminals 1 and 2). You can exchange your voucher direct at the BCN Airport and use the Metro from Airport to City Center with your HolaBCN Card. To depart Monday at 13:00, you must check in at the airport before 13:00. The 3 day Hola BCN! is valid for 72h as of the first validation. So from our point of view, the 3 day card is the right card for you.

2/ “The TMB app shows all buses operating in Barcelona”. Not true. I used the app and waited for a bus and then I found out from the driver that I couldn’t use his bus because it’s a different company (AMB). Then I realised on the app I can use buses with red numbers.

Hi there! Thanks for the helpful guide.
When I arrive in Barcelona, I have to take the L99 bus to reach my hotel. According to Google, that bus line is operated by Avanza. I bought the 2-day Hola Barcelona card for my journeys in the inner city, but I’m curious whether I can use it also on line L99 operated by this company. If not, what’s the best way to buy a single-ticket for the L99 line? https://avanzabus.com is down at the moment.

      Hello Ben,
the Hola Barcelona Travel Card is only valid ion buses operated by TMB.
For further information on tickets and connections for buses by Avanza, please contact this bus company directly.

      Hello,
The 5-day Hola Barcelona Card is valid for a total of 120 hours.
If your return journey to the airport is within this period, you can use the Hola BCN Card.

Are most of the tourist attraction locations within Zone 1? I am trying to decide if the T-Casual Ticket for a total of 10 journeys will get us to most places that are 20 minutes away from La Ramblas (Which is where we are staying). We will be walking most places but need to use the train at least twice to get to our tour meeting place.
Is there a website/map that shows all the zones.
    Thank you,
    Chris

      Hello Chris,
Yes, Barcelona’s main tourist attractions and sights are actually located in Zone 1 of the public transport network. Here is a map showing the zones.
If you are arriving by plane, please note that the T-Casual ticket is not valid for transfers by metro or train from the airport to the city centre. You need the extra Airport Ticket for this. If you plan to use local public transport during your stay, you may be interested in the Hola Barcelona Travel Card.
      Have fun in Barcelona!
